El Salvador autorizó uso de emergencia de vacuna AstraZeneca contra Covid-19
El presidente Nayib Bukele mostró su esperanza en un “verdadero cambio de juego” para vencer la pandemia de coronavirus.
El Salvador aprobó el miércoles el uso de emergencia de la vacuna contra Covid-19 de AstraZeneca y la Universidad de Oxford, dijo la entidad sanitaria encargada de avalar los medicamentos en la nación centroamericana.
El anuncio se da el mismo día en que Reino Unido aprobó la vacuna y se convirtió en el primer país del mundo en dar el aval a la inyección, con la esperanza de que ayude a contener la ola de contagios provocada por una nueva variante altamente contagiosa.
El presidente de El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, manifestó este miércoles su confianza en “un verdadero cambio de juego en la pandemia”, después de que su país autorizara la importación, distribución y uso de la vacuna creada por la firma AstraZeneca.
Según Bukele, la vacuna contra Covid-19 y el grupo de investigación de vacunas dentro del Departamento de Pediatría de la Universidad de Oxford “está enfocada en la eficiencia, pero también en la asequibilidad, la distribución rápida, las capacidades logísticas, y fue diseñado pensando en todo el mundo”.
De acuerdo con la institución reguladora de medicamentos de El Salvador, la decisión “se sustenta técnica y jurídicamente en las evidencias generadas por el fabricante y por las autoridades sanitarias de otros países”, que previamente autorizaron la utilización de la vacuna.
