Descubren en China la variante británica de la COVID-19

La nueva variante de la COVID-19 detectada en el Reino Unido fue descubierta en China en una estudiante de regreso a ese país, anunciaron las autoridades.
En un comunicado redactado el miércoles, el Centro de Control y Prevención de Enfermedades (CDC) indicó que la nueva variante fue aislada en una mujer de 23 años llegada a Shanghái el 14 de diciembre procedente del Reino Unido.
La mutación fue descubierta el 24 de diciembre en muestras de un análisis. China anunció ese mismo día la suspensión de sus vuelos con el Reino Unido.
Esta variante es la primera nueva variante en entrar en China y «plantea una grave amenaza para la prevención y control de la COVID-19» en el país, según el comunicado.
En consecuencia, se tomaron medidas de control, por ejemplo, el aislamiento de la persona contagiada.
La nueva variante del coronavirus detectada en el Reino Unido es de 50 % a 74 % más contagiosa que las otras variaciones existentes, según los expertos.
Ya fue hallada en muchos países, entre ellos Canadá, Estados Unidos, Portugal, Francia, Jordania, Corea del Sur y Chile.
China, donde surgió el nuevo coronavirus en diciembre de 2019, ha prácticamente controlado la epidemia.
