Estados Unidos dona más de un millón de vacunas anticovid a Costa Rica
Esta es la segunda vez que el país recibe donación directa bilateral del país norteamericano.
El Gobierno de los Estados Unidos anunció el martes la donación bilateral de 1.000.800 vacunas contra la covid-19 de la casa farmacéutica Pfizer/BioNTech, las cuales permitirán acelerar la colocación de terceras dosis y reforzar el esquema de vacunación de una mayor cantidad de personas.
Según informó el Poder Ejecutivo en un comunicado de prensa, esta donación se realizará en cuatro tractos que se entregarán a lo largo de esta semana. La primera entrega de 309.600 dosis ocurrió este martes en horas de la noche y en los próximos días el país recibirá las 691.200 restantes.
El mandatario Carlos Alvarado, agradeció la donación: “Estas dosis representan un gran impulso para seguir protegiendo a todas las personas que habitan nuestro país, en especial ante el impacto de la variante ómicron. El Gobierno de la República continúa trabajando arduamente para la obtención de más dosis”.
El Gobierno afirmó que estas dosis se suman a las 503.100 suministradas en julio del año anterior, llegando a un total de 1.503.900 vacunas donadas por la administración de Joe Biden.
Con esta entrega, el país llegaría a 2.031.030 dosis donadas, por los gobiernos de los Estados Unidos (1.503.900), Canadá (319.200), España (69.600), República Dominicana (56.800) y Austria (50.000). Estas se suman a las 7.609.155 dosis por contrato de compra, por lo que el país sumaría un acumulado de 9.640.185 dosis recibidas.
“Estados Unidos está comprometido en apoyar a Costa Rica en su programa de vacunación contra covid-19 para promover la seguridad y salud pública. Solo juntos lograremos superar esta pandemia”, indicó el Encargado de Negocios de la Embajada de Estados Unidos, Marcos Mandojana.
De acuerdo con datos suministrados por la Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social (CCSS), al corte del 7 de febrero, el 79,2% de la población total tienen una dosis, de ellas, el 71,9% tiene dos dosis y 11,9% ya recibieron su tercera dosis.
