Tiburón le arrancó la pierna a un hombre que durante unos 30 segundos luchó por su vida
De acuerdo con las autoridades, Tobby Begg fue mordido por el tiburón en medio de un ‘ataque sostenido y prolongado’ cuando estaba surfeando. La víctima se encuentra grave.
Lo que empezó como una salida entre amigos para hacer deporte se convirtió rápidamente en una pesadilla, luego de que un hombre fuera atacado por un tiburón mientras surfeaba cerca de las playas de Lighthouse Beach, en Port Macquarie, en Nueva Gales. De acuerdo con las autoridades, la víctima, que fue identificada como Toby Begg, tuvo que luchar con el animal durante al menos 30 segundos en un “ataque bastante sostenido y prolongado”.
Los hechos se presentaron en la tarde del viernes, 25 de agosto de 2023, cuando Begg y otras seis personas departían en la costa media de Nueva Gales del Sur. En medio del ataque, el surfista perdió una de sus piernas y sus amigos acudieron en su ayuda, arrastrándolo hasta la orilla.
Según los familiares de la víctima, el hombre ha debido someterse a múltiples cirugías y, aunque su condición ha mejorado, todavía le falta un largo camino por recorrer antes de recuperarse por completo. En una declaración de Chris Lenihan, cuñado de Begg, al medio local Mirror, se reveló que por ahora se desconoce el alcance total de las lesiones que sufrió el surfista: “Están en etapas muy tempranas y se está descubriendo el alcance total de sus lesiones. Sin embargo, necesitará muchas cirugías y tiene años de rehabilitación por delante”, expresó.
Martin Burke, inspector jefe de la policía de Nueva Gales del Sur, contó los detalles del caso: «Los informes indican que un hombre intentó luchar contra este tiburón durante 30 segundos y luego nadó hasta la orilla, donde se dio cuenta de que había sufrido importantes lesiones en la parte inferior de las piernas. Por lo que tengo entendido, fue un ataque sostenido y prolongado”.
