La historia de la joven que le diagnosticaron tarde cáncer por culpa del coronavirus
El coronavirus hizo que le posterguen los exámenes médicos, ya que le dijeron que su caso «no era grave».
El testimonio de una joven española a quien se le diagnosticó cáncer de forma tardía por culpa de la pandemia se ha viralizado en redes sociales por la crudeza de sus palabras y el negligente funcionar de los médicos que la atendieron en diversas ocasiones.
«La COVID-19 ha hecho muchísimo daño a otras enfermedades; a su detección, a su seguimiento y a su curación» partió el relato de Olatz Vázquez a través de su Twitter.
«El 9 de junio de 2020 me diagnosticaron un cáncer gástrico con metástasis abdominal. Estadio IV. No me sorprendió; llevaba un año yendo de médico en médico porque no me encontraba bien. Su respuesta era siempre la misma: ‘eres joven; será una celiaquía, una gastritis, una úlcera… ‘. Hasta me recomendaron ir al ginecólogo porque quizás, y cito textualmente ‘estaba confundiendo dolores abdominales con dolores menstruales'» prosiguió.

La joven continua explicando que se hizo un examen el cual le dio como resultado «un poco de anemia y la B-12 baja», algo que no resultó relevante para los doctores que la atendían.
«Me dan hora para una gastroscopia. Pienso: ‘¡por fin!’. Volante ordinario. ¿Ordinario? Después de un año de molestias, dolores, pérdida de peso… ¿Ordinario? ‘No te preocupes, probablemente sea una celiaquía’. La cita es el 22 de abril. 20 de marzo de 2020. Suena el teléfono: ‘Debido a la alerta sanitaria hemos decidido retrasar tu gastroscopia al 9 de junio’. Les pido que reconsideren mi caso. Su respuesta: ‘Olatz, no te preocupes, hemos estudiado tu historial clínico y tú no tienes nada grave'» continuó Vázquez.

Después de dos visitas de urgencia a recintos hospitalarios, llega la fecha tan esperada por la española. «9 de junio de 2020. Por fin la gastroscopia. Pienso que esa prueba marcaría el final de un año y medio de constantes molestias, dolores y malestar. Pero no. Era solo el principio de algo peor. ‘Olatz, hemos encontrado varias úlceras tumorizadas en tu estómago’. Le pregunto si tengo cáncer. Me dice que hay que esperar a los resultados de la biopsia, pero que «su aspecto no era bueno». ‘Me dijisteis que era joven y que no tenía nada grave’. Baja la mirada. Salgo de la consulta. Me caigo al suelo. Grito. Lloro. Rabia, impotencia, dolor.
Hoy he salido por primera vez a la calle sin taparme la cabeza. Una niña se me ha quedado mirando y su madre le ha dicho: "¿a que está guapísima?"

«Y hasta hoy. Más de dos meses después y dos ciclos de quimioterapia a mis espaldas, todavía no entiendo cómo el factor joven es determinante para descartar si tienes una enfermedad grave. Sé que parte de mi «mala suerte» viene de tener que haber vivido esta enfermedad grave en mitad de una pandemia. La COVID-19 está ahí, pero el cáncer también, y un diagnóstico precoz es la mejor cura para esta enfermedad» concluye la joven.
