Al menos 243 personas que se sometieron a una prueba de nivel de glucosa, están en riesgo de contaminación cruzada, en Australia.
Las autoridades de Australia le han pedido a más de 200 exresidentes de las instalaciones de cuarentena de coronavirus el realizarse pruebas para detectar enfermedades de transmisión sanguínea, incluido el VIH, después de que admitieran haber utilizado los mismos dispositivos de análisis para varios pacientes por error.
Es el último de una serie de reveses de Covid-19 que golpean al país y al estado de Victoria en particular. Las infracciones anteriores en los hoteles de cuarentena de Victoria provocaron un brote de Covid-19 en Melbourne, lo que causó que la segunda ciudad más grande del país pasara meses bajo un estricto bloqueo.
En un comunicado lanzado el pasado lunes, la agencia de salud de Victoria, Safer Care Victoria, dijo que estaba contactando a 243 personas que se sometieron a una prueba de nivel de glucosa en sangre antes del 20 de agosto, ya que había riesgo de contaminación cruzada y virus transmitidos por la sangre, incluido el VIH.
Safer Care Victoria dio a conocer en un comunicado que el riesgo clínico de infección es bajo; sin embargo, para mayor tranquilidad, se organizará el acceso a pruebas confidenciales.

Victoria ha reportado más de 20 mil casos de coronavirus, incluidas más de 800 muertes, lo que la convierte en el punto de acceso de Covid-19 de Australia. El país ha reportado más de 27 mil 400 casos y al menos 905 muertes en total, según la Universidad Johns Hopkins.

Aunque los dispositivos están diseñados para varios usos por una persona, fueron utilizados para varios residentes, dijo Safer Care. Las agujas se pueden cambiar entre usos, pero los dispositivos pueden retener cantidades microscópicas de sangre.
Según Safer Care, no hay riesgo de que los dispositivos hayan transmitido el coronavirus, ya que no se transmite por la sangre. Pero hay una “lista clínica baja” de la propagación de la hepatitis B y C y el VIH.
