Francia despide al maestro asesinado convertido en símbolo de la libertad de expresión

El presidente francés, Emmanuel Macron, aseguró este miércoles en el homenaje nacional al profesor decapitado que Francia “no renunciará a las caricaturas” y proseguirá “el combate por la libertad” que Samuel Paty encarnaba.
Ese maestro de Geografía e Historia fue asesinado el pasado viernes tras haber mostrado caricaturas de Mahoma en una clase de secundaria sobre libertad de expresión.
”Defenderemos el laicismo. Y la libertad que enseñabas tan bien. No renunciaremos a caricaturas ni a las ilustraciones”, dijo Macron en una ceremonia celebrada en el patio de honor de la universidad parisina de la Sorbona, “lugar del humanismo” y del “saber universal”.
El féretro fue portado a hombros por la Guardia Nacional Republicana, mientras a petición de la familia sonó la canción “One”, de U2, y fue despedido también con La Marsellesa, himno nacional que entonaron muchos ciudadanos congregados en las puertas de esa institución.
El acto, breve y muy solemne, destacó en palabras de Macron que Paty fue asesinado “porque decidió enseñar a sus alumnos a convertirse en ciudadanos, asumir sus deberes y las libertades para ejercerlos”.
El profesor, que recibió a título póstumo la Legión de Honor, la mayor condecoración francesa, ha pasado a encarnar según el presidente “el rostro del combate por la libertad y la razón”, una lucha que Macron avanzó que continuará en su nombre “porque es más necesaria que nunca”.
