Estudio revela que la aspirina reduce riesgo de muerte por del Covid-19
Los investigadores encontraron que la aspirina reduce hasta un 44 por ciento en el riesgo de ser conectados a ventiladores automáticos
Baltimore, Estados Unidos.- Un estudio realizado por la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad de Maryland reveló que el Ácido acetilsalicílico, mejor conocido como aspirina, ayuda a prevenir la muerte en pacientes hospitalizados por el Covid-19.
«Los pacientes hospitalizados con COVID-19 que tomaban una aspirina de dosis baja diaria para protegerse contra la enfermedad cardiovascular tenían un riesgo significativamente menor de complicaciones y muerte en comparación con aquellos que no tomaban aspirina», indicó el estudio, publicado el jueves.
De acuerdo a la investigación liderada por el doctor Jonathan Chow, profesor asistente de anestesiología de la citada casa de estudios, los pacientes que tomaron aspirina presentaron menor probabilidad de ingresar a la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos (ICU, por sus siglas en ingles) y redujeron la posibilidad de ser conectados a un respirador.
Durante el estudio, el doctor Chow y sus colegas examinaron los registros médicos de 412 pacientes con coronavirus, de alrededor de 55 años, que fueron hospitalizados tras presentar complicaciones derivadas del virus respiratorio. Estos pacientes fueron atendidos en el Centro Médico de la Universidad de Maryland, ubicado en Baltimore, y en otros tres hospitales de la costa este.
Cerca de la cuarta parte de los pacientes tomaba bajas dosis de aspirina de forma diaria, antes o después de ser hospitalizados, para controlar enfermedades cardiovasculares.
Los investigadores encontraron que la aspirina reduce hasta un 44 por ciento en el riesgo de ser conectados a ventiladores automáticos. Además, disminuye en un 43 por ciento la posibilidad de ser ingresado a la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos y genera una disminución del 43 por ciento en la posibilidad de morir en un hospital, en comparación de los pacientes que no toman este medicamento.
«Creemos que los efectos anticoagulantes de la aspirina proporcionan beneficios para los pacientes con COVID-19 al prevenir la formación de microcoágulos”, dijo el coautor del estudio Michael A. Mazzeffi, MD, profesor asociado de anestesiología en la UMSOM.
No obstante, los doctores encargados del estudio señalaron que no es recomendable tomar aspirina en caso de tener riesgo de hemorragia, enfermedades renales crónicas o que usan medicamentos como esteroides o anticoagulantes.
