Enfermera británica condenada a prisión de por vida por asesinatos de bebés

Un tribunal británico condenó este lunes a prisión de por vida sin posibilidad de liberación a la enfermera hallada culpable de los asesinatos de siete recién nacidos y otros intentos de homicidio, en un caso que ha conmocionado al Reino Unido.
Lucy Letby, de 33 años y que se negó a estar presente en la audiencia celebrada en un tribunal de Manchester (norte de Inglaterra), fue sentenciada a una pena muy poco frecuente en la legislación inglesa.
Letby trabajaba en la unidad de cuidados intensivos del hospital Countess of Chester, en el noroeste de Inglaterra, donde tuvieron lugar los asesinatos, entre junio de 2015 y junio de 2016.
La mujer ha sido acusada de inyectar aire a los bebés por vía intravenosa y mediante sondas naso-gástricas, así como de administrarles sobredosis de leche.
A veces participaba en los esfuerzos colectivos por salvar a los recién nacidos e incluso ayudaba a los padres desesperados. También escribía cartas a los padres en duelo.
