¿En qué países se castiga la homosexualidad con cárcel?
Aún en 2023, varios países en el mundo tienen leyes discriminatorias hacia la homosexualidad; otras naciones incluso la castigan con pena de muerte.
La homosexualidad era considerada como una enfermedad durante muchos años. Sin embargo, desde 1990, la Organización Mundial de la Salud la eliminó de la lista de trastornos y enfermedades. Sin embargo, algunos países aún castigan incluso con cárcel o penas de muerte esta preferencia sexual.
Ya desde 1973, colectivos de homosexuales consiguieron que la Asociación Norteamericana de Psiquiatría la descartara como un trastorno de las “Desviaciones sexuales”. Varios países castigan con cárcel a las personas de la comunidad LGBT. Otras naciones, como Irán y Arabia Saudita no sólo se quedan con sanciones de reclusión, sino que también aplican la pena de muerte.
¿En qué países está penalizada la homosexualidad?
En 2022, la Organización No Gubernamental Human Rights Watch contabilizó 67 países o territorios con leyes que criminalizaban la homosexualidad. Sin embargo, algunas naciones han cambiado dichas legislaciones, tal es el caso de Antigua y Barbuda o San Cristóbal y Nieves, que derogaron legislaciones que criminalizaban relaciones del mismo sexo.
Actualmente, la organización contabiliza a 65 territorios que penalizan esta conducta con cárcel u otro tipo de sanciones:

Amnistía Internacional agrega que al menos siete naciones castigan las relaciones entre personas del mismo sexo con la pena de muerte: Brunei, Irán, Mauritania, Catar, Arabia Saudita, Sudán y Yemen.
¿Cómo son las cárceles para los homosexuales en otros países?
En algunos países, las cárceles para personas homosexuales y del reto de la comunidad LGBT pueden sufrir una doble y hasta triple discriminación, ya que en dichos centros de detención existe una jerarquía, en la cual adultos mayores, personas con discapacidad y personas transgénero están hasta el fondo del escalafón, de acuerdo con un informe de la Asociación para la Prevención de la Tortura.
Aministía Internacional señala que, por ejemplo, en Camerún, las personas detenidas por ser homosexuales pueden pasar en prisión por más de 48 horas sin que les presenten cargos, un tiempo superior a lo que marca la ley.
Además, los custodios y oficiales los ingresan con el resto de población reclusa en general y los someten a exámenes médicos anales degradantes e invasivos.
