La Universidad de Hong Kong podría ser el origen de un brote detectado en la ciudad, pues en el laboratorio de la institución realizan investigaciones sobre el coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2).
De acuerdo con la televisión pública RTHK, se confirmó un caso entre los empleados del laboratorio, donde hallaron Covid-19 en 14 de 37 muestras ambientales tomadas en las instalaciones, situadas en la Escuela de Salud Pública.
Además, más de 40 compañeros de la trabajadora contagiada han sido puestos en cuarentena, aunque, hasta ahora, ninguno más ha dado positivo en las pruebas.
Las autoridades mencionan que las muestras de Covid-19 que se analizaron en el laboratorio no eran contagiosas, así que aseguran que no hay pruebas de que la infección se produjera en las instalaciones.
El centro ha sometido a todos los empleados a pruebas semanales como medida de precaución.
Por ahora, Hong Kong ha mejorado luego de una tercera oleada de contagios que comenzó a principios de julio que fue cuadruplicando el número de infectados, tras haber detectado sólo unos mil 200 hasta finales de junio.
Este domingo la ciudad registró 23 contagios, cuatro de ellos importados de otros países, lo que supone la cifra más alta en casi un mes, y contrasta con la situación del pasado día 15, en el que no se detectó ni un solo caso por primera vez desde que comenzó esa tercera oleada.
De acuerdo con fuentes médicas citadas en el diario local, se espera que para esta jornada el total de nuevos contagios detectados no sobrepase los seis.
