Addisyon Lumpkin, una niña de 11 años en Jonesboro, Arkansas (EE. UU.), está desafiando las expectativas de crecimiento debido a una condición genética poco común: el síndrome de Weaver-Smith. Según la Organización Nacional de Enfermedades Raras, este trastorno ha sido identificado en solo unas 50 personas en todo el mundo.
Addisyon Lumpkin ha experimentado un crecimiento excepcional desde su nacimiento. A los 11 años, ya mide 1,82 metros, lo que ha desconcertado a su familia y a ella la ha llevado a enfrentar desafíos únicos.
A los 3 años, Addisyon Lumpkin fue diagnosticada con el síndrome de Weaver-Smith, una afección que provoca un crecimiento anormal de los huesos. Según comentó su mamá al medio WBKO, la niña constantemente le preguntaba por qué era mucho más alta que sus compañeros.
“Ella me dijo: ‘Mami, ¿por qué no puedo correr como los demás niños? ¿Por qué no puedo hacer esto y aquello como los demás niños? ¿Por qué soy más alta que los otros niños?’”, dijo Emily Lumpkin.
La familia Lumpkin se enfrenta a desafíos adicionales, como encontrar ropa y, especialmente, zapatos para Addisyon. Debido a su rápido crecimiento, necesita cuatro tallas diferentes de calzado al año, todos personalizados, lo que hace que sea extremadamente costosa su manutención.
Addisyon ha enfrentado el acoso escolar debido a su altura inusual, por lo que la familia está comprometida en crear conciencia sobre el síndrome de Weaver-Smith y promover la aceptación de las diferencias.
Además, están en el proceso para ingresar las medidas de su pie para certificarlo como el más grande en el Libro de Guinness World Records.
