Gran Bretaña, cerrada y aislada de Europa: la nueva cepa de coronavirus estaba “fuera de control”
Confinamiento total en Londres, las personas deben comportarse como si tuvieran el virus.
El ministro de Salud británico, Matt Hancock, afirmó este domingo que la nueva cepa del coronavirus que sufren las islas estaba “fuera de control” para justificar el confinamiento de Londres y buena parte de Inglaterra.
“Desgraciadamente, la nueva cepa estaba fuera de control. Debíamos retomar el control, es la única forma de hacerlo, restringir los contactos sociales”, puntualizó Hancock en la cadena Sky News.
Es una enfermedad mortal y debemos controlarla, lo cual es más difícil con esta nueva variante”, afirmó. “Todo el mundo, en particular quienes viven en regiones designadas Nivel 4 deben comportarse como si tuvieran el virus. Esa es la única forma de poder recuperar el control”, añadió.
En ese sentido, Hancock recordó que los casos se “dispararon” en los últimos días. El país se enfrenta a “un momento muy difícil de controlar hasta que llegue el desembarco de la vacuna”, advirtió.
Hancock detalló que hasta las 20.00 horas del sábado habían sido vacunadas 350.000 personas. “Vamos a salir adelante pero nos esperan meses difíciles”, declaró.
Además, calificó de “absolutamente irresponsable” el éxodo protagonizado en la víspera por miles de personas que decidieron abandonar Londres y el sureste de Inglaterra nada más conocer la declaración de confinamiento para ambas zonas por el repunte de los casos de coronavirus por una nueva cepa de contagio acelerado.
“Los responsables médicos dejaron absolutamente claro que la gente debería deshacer las maletas”, aseguró Hancock en referencia a la petición formulada por las autoridades para que la población se quede en su casa en lugar de escapar de las ciudades afectadas, Londres en particular.
Londres y el sureste del país amanecieron este domingo en el llamado Nivel 4, uno que cierra efectivamente las zonas afectadas, obliga a los residentes a quedarse en sus domicilios salvo limitadas excepciones, cierra las instalaciones de ocio y servicios no esenciales, e impone el trabajo desde casa salvo circunstancia inapelable, según el primer ministro. Algo que afecta los festejos de Navidad en todo el territorio.
Aunque en principio la duración inicial estipulada es de dos semanas, estas restricciones se revisarán el próximo 30 de diciembre, día en que el Gobierno se pronunciará sobre una posible extensión para salvar, en la medida de lo posible, la última semana navideña.
Asimismo, en lo que al resto del país se refiere, el primer ministro ha reducido significativamente los cinco días navideños en los que tenía previsto flexibilizar las restricciones hasta ahora vigentes, y que ahora se limitará a solo 24 horas.
Por su parte, el gobierno de Países Bajos ha decidido este domingo prohibir el tráfico aéreo de pasajeros con el Reino Unido de forma inmediata y durante al menos diez días por temores a la nueva variante del coronavirus detectada en territorio británico.
En un comunicado, el Ministerio de Sanidad confirmó que un estudio realizado en Países Bajos a principios de diciembre reveló que también circulaba un virus con la variante descrita por el Reino Unido, y, tras la alarma en Londres, las autoridades sanitarias se encuentran ahora analizando esta cepa de coronavirus, cómo se produjo el contagio de la persona afectada y si hay casos relacionados.
El Instituto de Salud Pública de Países Bajos (RIVM) pidió a Sanidad el control de los movimientos de pasajeros con el Reino Unido “tanto como sea posible” para limitar “la introducción de esta cepa de virus” en territorio neerlandés, por lo que el gabinete tomó la decisión cautelar de declarar la prohibición del tráfico aéreo de personas procedentes de las islas británicas hasta al menos el 1 de enero.
