¡Histórico! El conjunto blanquiazul le ganó a Liga Deportiva Alajuelense con un marcador final de 2-1 en el Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto, en el juego de vuelta de la gran final de la Liga Promérica de Costa Rica.

La última vez que el conjunto blanquiazul alzó la copa fue en 1940 cuando se enfrentó contra el Club Sport Herediano en el antiguo Estadio Nacional.
El cuadro brumoso también se coronó campeón del fútbol nacional en 1923 y 1936. Además obtuvo el trofeo de Copa en 5 oportunidades y un título de la Liga de Campeones de la Concacaf en 1994.
Ante la proeza del Cartaginés, el presidente de la República, Rodrigo Chaves Robles, envió un emotivo mensaje a los nuevos monarcas del fútbol de primera división.
