Convocadas por el Foro Feminista Magaly Pineda (FFMP) y otras organizaciones, entregaron una carta dirigida al presidente de la Cámara de Diputados, Alfredo Pacheco, pidiendo que no se sancione la interrupción del embarazo cuando la vida de la mujer esté en peligro, cuando existan malformaciones incompatibles con la vida del feto o cuando sea resultado de una violación, incesto o pederastia.

Las manifestantes acudieron ataviadas de verde, con mascarillas, pañuelos y ponchos a juego, para pedir la despenalización del aborto en las tres causales coreando la consigna «No queremos ley especial, tres causales en el Código Penal».
La Cámara de Diputados envió en agosto pasado a una comisión especial un proyecto de ley para despenalizar el aborto, tras decidir que el asunto quede fuera del Código Penal y que se debata más adelante como una ley específica.
Feministas denuncian trampa
Para la activista Sergia Galván, la ley especial «es un engaño que llevan años intentando (los antiabortistas), es una medida tramposa» para entretener a los defensores de las tres causales mientras se aprueba el Código Penal sancionando de manera absoluta la interrupción del embarazo.

En la carta dirigida a los diputados, las organizadoras del plantón advierten de que la penalización absoluta del aborto constituye un grave problema de salud pública, ya que lleva a su práctica clandestina en condiciones inseguras que, muchas veces, se traduce en el fallecimiento de la madre. El 13 % de las muertes maternas en el país son consecuencia de abortos inseguros, dijeron.
La República Dominicana es uno de únicos seis países de la región que mantiene una prohibición total del aborto junto con El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Haití y Surinam.
Según encuestas recientes, el 79 % de la población dominicana está de acuerdo con el aborto cuando está en peligro la vida de la mujer, el 76 % lo apoya por malformaciones del feto incompatibles con la vida y el 67 % cuando es fruto de violación o incesto y pederastia.
