Hombre acusado de asesinato de su bebé podría ser condenado a muerte
La Fiscalía sostiene que el recién nacido murió producto de los golpes que recibió su madre cuando estaba embarazada.
Un estadounidense de 32 años podría ser sentenciado a pena de muerte al enfrentar cargos por asesinato imprudente de su recién nacido (38 días) en Estados Unidos. Según el informe policial, el bebé murió como consecuencia de los golpes que recibió su madre cuando estaba embarazada.
El jefe de la Policía de Prattville en el estado de Alabama, Mark Thompson, señaló que el acusado Christopher Lamar Chase Hundley presuntamente golpeó a su pareja en el estómago el 4 de julio, durante un episodio de violencia familiar.
Producto de la agresión, la mujer tuvo que ser internada de emergencia en un hospital para dar a luz a su bebé Adriel, que, al nacer prematuro, tuvo que ser conectado a un equipo de soporte vital, según el medio Montgomery Advertiser.
Lamentablemente, el 11 de agosto murió el bebé debido a las lesiones que sufrió cuando todavía estaba en el útero de la madre, afirmó el fiscal jefe de distrito, C.J. Robinson. “Fue la más inocente de las víctimas”, sostuvo el juez en la corte que se desarrolló el viernes 11 de septiembre.
Condena a pena de muerte
Según la ley estatal del estado de Alabama, toda persona declarada culpable de asesinato imprudente de un infante de menos de 12 años puede ser condenado a muerte. Otra opción es la cadena perpetua sin derecho a libertad condicional.
“Los cargos por crimen capital están definitivamente sobre la mesa”, dijo el fiscal al acusarlo por un crimen que es castigado con la pena de muerte.
Y añadió que aún el caso se encuentra en investigación, pero de confirmarse el delito, sería presentado ante un Gran Jurado del Condado de Autauga, una instancia que está conformada por ciudadanos para revisar este tipo de cargos judiciales.
