Videos compartidos en redes sociales muestran el momento tenso en el que uno de los cuidadores del elefante lucha por controlar al animal, mientras los devotos se apresuran a huir de la calle abarrotada. El intento desesperado de tirar del elefante por la cola refleja la magnitud del incidente, que tuvo lugar durante el festival.
Lesiones leves y atención médica
Al menos 13 personas fueron llevadas al hospital estatal de Kataragama y tratadas por heridas leves, confirmó un portavoz policial. Afortunadamente, todos los heridos fueron dados de alta al día siguiente del suceso, según declaraciones del hospital.
Sagrados pero controvertidos

A pesar de la prohibición gubernamental de capturar elefantes salvajes, se han registrado casos de crías robadas tras la muerte de sus madres a manos de cazadores furtivos en años recientes.
