Nuevo tiroteo en Estados Unidos: estudiantes de universidad saltaron por las ventanas para salvarse
Un trabajador de la Universidad de Carolina del Norte murió en un nuevo tiroteo en Estados Unidos. Tres horas y quince minutos después, tanto la Policía local como el centro educativo indicaron que la situación se había resuelto.
Un trabajador de la Universidad de Carolina del Norte, en la localidad estadounidense de Chapel Hill, murió este lunes, 28 de agosto de 2023, durante un tiroteo en el campus, según informó el rector del centro educativo, Kevin M. Guskiewicz.
La universidad no dará detalles adicionales sobre la víctima mortal hasta confirmar que sus familiares hayan sido informados, explicó el rector.
La muerte de este individuo se conoce poco después de que se informara del arresto del sospechoso del ataque, que mantuvo a la universidad sitiada durante varias horas.
La universidad emitió una primera alerta poco después de las 13.00 hora local (17.00 GMT), indicando que había una persona peligrosa y armada «dentro o cerca» de las instalaciones.
En redes sociales se difundió un video que muestra a varios estudiantes saltando por unas ventanas para salvarse del ataque.

Sobre el atacante tampoco se han dado más detalles, pero la fotografía oficial sobre el sospechoso corresponde a un joven de rasgos asiáticos.
Mientras la alerta estuvo activa, la universidad pidió a los estudiantes que estuvieran en la zona que se resguardaran y solicitó al resto que no se acercaran.
Según contó un testigo a la cadena CNN, muchos alumnos se encerraron en los edificios del centro educativo mientras agentes armados registraban el campus.
Esta es la segunda semana de clases de este semestre en una universidad con aproximadamente 32.000 alumnos, 4.000 profesores y 9.000 trabajadores.
En lo que va de año, según The Gun Violence Archive, que documenta los actos de violencia con armas de fuego en el país, ha habido en Estados Unidos 476 tiroteos masivos, un término que incluye un mínimo de cuatro personas heridas o fallecidas, sin contar al agresor.
