Trabajador de centro de cuidado de niños es acusado de abusar de 91 menores
Al sujeto le imputan 1.623 crímenes, entre los que hay 136 violaciones.
Un australiano que trabajaba en centros de cuidado de niños fue inculpado por presuntamente abusar de 91 menores en lo que la policía describió el martes como uno de los casos «más espantosos» de abuso infantil en el país.
Los agentes le imputan 1.623 crímenes, entre ellos 136 violaciones y 110 de interacción sexual con menores de 10 años.
Pero no fue hasta que empezaron a examinar los más de 4.000 archivos almacenados en su teléfono y su ordenador que se dieron cuenta de la magnitud de los presuntos delitos.
La policía explicó que los supuestos abusos ocurrieron entre 2007 y 2022 en diez centros distintos y se centraban exclusivamente en «chicas preadolescentes».
De las 91 víctimas, 87 son de Australia. Las otras cuatro no han sido identificadas y la policía sospecha que corresponden a un corto periodo de trabajo en el extranjero entre 2013 y 2014.
La policía aseguró que está trabajando con agencias de seguridad internacionales para encontrar a estas niñas, pero no reveló en qué países se centra la búsqueda.
«No hay mucho consuelo que pueda dar a los padres y los niños que han sido identificados», dijo la comisaria asistente de la policía federal, Justine Gough.
«Es un tiempo angustioso para las familias, los cuidadores y la comunidad».
Su compañero en la policía de Nueva Gales del Sur, Michael Fitzgerald, dijo que era uno de los casos más espantosos que había visto.
«Lo que esta persona hizo a estos niños sobrepasa los límites de cualquier imaginación», dijo. «Intentas no escandalizarte tras tanto tiempo en la policía, pero este es un caso espantoso».
La policía aseguró que el hombre había pasado todos los controles de antecedentes necesarios para trabajar con niños en Australia.
El acusado debe ser juzgado el 21 de agosto en el estado de Queensland, donde se encuentra Brisbane. Cuando termine el proceso será extraditado al estado de Nueva Gales del Sur, donde se enfrentará a más cargos.
