La NASA encuentra una roca agujereada en Marte: expertos creen que viene del espacio
El róver Perseverance captó esta misteriosa roca hueca en la superficie del cráter Jezero.
Las misiones robóticas de la NASA en la superficie de Marte continúan encontrando extrañas formaciones rocosas. En una última ocasión, en el suelo marciano, el róver Perserverance ha captado una roca con un agujero casi perfecto en su interior, una característica que le hace parecerse mucho a una rosquilla.
Aunque esta roca marciana fue observada a lo lejos por primera vez en abril de 2023, recién el último 22 de junio, el robot de seis ruedas se encontró a una distancia cuatro veces más cercana (100 metros) como para poder captar más de sus detalles en una nueva fotografía.
¿Una roca de Marte o del espacio?
Las rocas de formas extrañas no son extrañas en el planeta rojo.
Los científicos explican que estas son el resultado de que las tormentas de viento y polvo erosionen su exterior a lo largo de eones, es decir, miles de millones de años. De allí que distintos astromóviles hayan podido encontrar rocas marcianas que se asemejan a flores y a otros elementos de la Tierra.
Dado que alrededor de la roca donut se hallan otras rocas más pequeñas, la NASA sostiene que este ejemplar pudo haberse formado de manera similar, después de que una o más rocas diminutas erosionaran cerca de su centro y dejaran una cavidad que luego el viento amplió.
Sin embargo, el Instituto SETI (acrónimo de búsqueda de inteligencia extraterrestre) tiene otra teoría: provino del espacio profundo. “Podría ser un gran meteorito junto con piezas más pequeñas”, sostuvo en su cuenta oficial de Twitter.

La hipótesis de los científicos de SETI no es descabellada, ya que los róvers Curiosity, Spirit y Opportunity han encontrado fragmentos de meteoritos y documentado impactos en vivo a lo largo de sus expediciones.
La roca agujereada se encuentra sobre el cráter Jezero, una depresión geológica ubicada en el hemisferio norte del planeta que se cree que antiguamente fue un lago y que el Perseverance se encuentra explorando desde su aterrizaje, en febrero de 2021.
