¿Estamos en peligro? Los asteroides se acercan
Se trata de un total de 5 asteroides que tendrán una trayectoria cercana a nuestro planeta. 3 de ellos tienen un tamaño superior al de un avión, según informó la NASA.
El Laboratorio de Propulsión a Chorro de la NASA dio a conocer un listado sobre al menos cinco asteroides que pasarán muy cerca de la Tierra, pero que su proximidad no pondrá en riesgo al planeta.
El grupo de expertos indicó que dos de los asteroides, uno del tamaño de un bus y otro del tamaño de una casa promedio, pasarán el miércoles, 12 de abril de 2023.
A estos cuerpos mencionados, se le suman los otros tres más, todos tienen un tamaño mayor al de un avión, pero estos pasarán volando cerca al planeta el jueves por la noche.
Los investigadores señalaron que la Tierra no está en riesgo, pues ningún asteroide está en curso de colisión, según informó la NASA.
De acuerdo con la NASA, el planetoide que pasará más cerca de la Tierra estará aproximadamente 900.000 kilómetros y el más lejano a 6.1 millones de kilómetros.
La agencia recalcó que ha establecido que el tamaño y la trayectoria son dos factores que se toman en cuenta para analizar el nivel de riesgo que puede representar uno de estos asteroides. Solo es una amenaza potencial cuando una roca cuenta con un tamaño superior a los 152 metros y que pueda pasar a 7,4 millones de kilómetros del planeta.
Afortunadamente, ninguno de los planetoides que fueron detectados cumplen las condiciones para ser considerados como un riesgo, por lo que si tuvieran trayectoria hacia la Tierra, es posible que se quemaran y perdieran gran parte de su tamaño al momento de ingresar a la atmósfera.
Esta noticia se da en medio de los anuncios de La Casa Blanca de que tiene nuevos planes para defender al planeta contra amenazas que vengan del espacio.
