Uno de los barrios más “cool” del mundo en 2022 está en Costa Rica
Según la revista británica Time Out.
Sabemos que genial es tal vez uno de los adjetivos más subjetivos que existen. Sin embargo, es sacar conclusiones a partir de la opinión de miles, y esto es justo lo que hizo la revista británica Time Out para revelar la lista de los barrios más “cool” del mundo. Lo mejor de todo es que en Costa Rica está uno de ellos.
Se trata de Barrio Escalante, que se encuentra al este de San José. Pertenece al cantón Central y al distrito El Carmen.
Según recoge la publicación, Escalante ocupó el puesto 41 de 51 barrios geniales y es el único sitio centroamericano en la lista.
El ranking lo encabeza Colonia Americana en Guadalajara, en México.
También destacaron otros países latinoamericanos como: Chile (lugar 9), Brasil (13), Cuba (14), Argentina (34), y Puerto Rico (40).
“Todos los años, encuestamos a miles de habitantes de ciudades de todo el mundo en nuestro índice Time Out. Como siempre, este año les hemos preguntado (entre otras cosas) por los lugares más geniales de su ciudad en este momento. Y por quinto año consecutivo, combinamos sus opiniones con las de nuestra red global de editores y escritores locales, para elaborar nuestra quinta clasificación anual de los barrios más cool del mundo”, escribe el equipo de la revista Time Out.
¿Qué dice la publicación sobre Barrio Escalante?
“Durante mucho tiempo, la capital de Costa Rica era un lugar de paso para llegar a su destino. Pero recientemente una generación de cocineros locales ha regresado a casa. Esto tras haber viajado y formado por todo el mundo. Y se ha centrado en el Barrio Escalante, dando a la calle 33 un nuevo apodo: Paseo Gastronómico.
Muchos están aportando un sentido de urgencia al orgulloso (pero cada vez más amenazado) legado de hiperlocalidad de su país. El restaurante Franco ha redirigido parte del mejor café de Costa Rica -históricamente exportado- a manos locales.
Mientras que Sikwa trabaja en estrecha colaboración con los agricultores indígenas bribri para reproducir antiguas recetas autóctonas.
Por su parte, Isolina ha logrado una fusión distintiva de alta cocina y cocina casera en lo que solía ser la casa de la familia Escalante, que da nombre a la zona.
Los ingredientes de temporada proceden de pequeños productores, lo que da lugar a un menú irresistible: pruebe las patatas fritas de arracache, los boniatos en caldo de lubina y la ternera cocinada con ajo caramelizado y servida con reducción de hibisco.
Los miércoles por la noche vaya a ver una película experimental en el Centro Cultural de Cooperación Española… o escuche un set de DJ en Sikwa.
“Luego váyase a Apotecario para tomar cócteles y kombucha antes de una noche en la pista de baile del club LGBTQ+ Neon Ice.
La autoproclamada barman de la selva Liz Furlong (conocida por su bar de agave, CATA, en la ciudad surfera de Tamarindo) llevará sus ingredientes recolectados y frescos a un nuevo bar de cócteles a finales de este año. Se llamará Curandero y está a un tiro de piedra de Escalante”.
