Al menos 14 niños y una maestra fallecieron en un tiroteo en la Escuela Primaria Robb ubicada en Uvalde, Texas (EE.UU.), según confirmó el gobernador Greg Abbot.
El asesino, que también murió en el ataque, fue identificado como Salvador Roma, de 18 años y estudiante de un colegio de educación secundaria.
En un primer momento el centro sanitario Uvalde Memorial Hospital señaló que habían muerto dos personas y que otras trece, todas ellas menores de edad, resultaron heridas de bala, aunque posteriormente el gobernador confirmó la muerte de 16 personas, incluido el atacante.
El Departamento de Seguridad Pública de Texas y el alcalde de Uvalde, Don McLaughlin, explicaron a Fox News que el tirador, que corrió hacia la escuela, se atrincheró dentro del centro.
Varios medios internacionales informan que Romas habría asesinado a su abuela previo al ataque. El joven identificado estaba armado con una pistola y un rifle.
Más tarde, la escuela publicó un post en Facebook alertando a los padres de que los estudiantes estaban siendo transportados al Centro Cívico Willie DeLeon para la reunificación. Además, todas las actividades del distrito y del campus, los programas y eventos extracurriculares fueron cancelados.
