Presidente Chaves rescinde acuerdo de cooperación educativa entre Costa Rica y Cuba
De acuerdo con Casa Presidencial la rescisión tiene «efectos inmediatos» pero “no afectará ningún proyecto conjunto en marcha”.
El presidente de la República, Rodrigo Chaves Robles, anunció este jueves la rescisión de Memorando de cooperación entre el Ministerio de Educación Pública de la República de Costa Rica con el Ministerio de Educación de la República de Cuba, firmado el 29 de abril de 2019.
“Tomamos esta decisión después de analizar la situación actual en nuestro sistema de Educación y las reformas que se necesitan para sacar adelante al país después del apagón educativo de los últimos años”, expresó Chaves.
Casa Presidencial indicó por medio de un comunicado de prensa que: “La rescisión, que tiene efectos inmediatos, no afecta a ningún proyecto conjunto en marcha, de acuerdo con lo expresado por la ministra de Educación Pública, Katharina Muller”.
El memorando había sido suscrito por el ministro de Educación en ese momento, Edgar Mora Altamirano, y el Embajador de Cuba en Costa Rica, Danilo Sánchez, con el propósito de promover y desarrollar la cooperación en áreas de interés común de educación basados en los principios de reciprocidad y beneficio mutuo.
El documento fue firmado en el marco de una visita a Costa Rica del ministro de Relaciones Exteriores de Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez, la primera de un canciller de la isla en los últimos 50 años.
El acuerdo tenía como fin “promover y desarrollar la cooperación en áreas de interés común de educación basados en los principios de reciprocidad y beneficio mutuo”, según la información oficial.
Costa Rica rompió sus relaciones diplomáticas con Cuba en 1961, pero los vínculos fueron restablecidos el 18 de marzo de 2009 por el entonces presidente de Costa Rica y Premio Nobel de la Paz, Óscar Arias.
