(Video) Andrea Vargas reacciona al homenaje que le hizo Brisa Hennessy
Conmemorando el Día Internacional de la Mujer, la surfista decidió rendirle tributo a Vargas y usar un jersey especial.
Con motivo del Día Internacional de la Mujer, que se conmemora el 8 de marzo, la World Surf League (WSL) tuvo una emotiva iniciativa a la que se sumó la surfista costarricense Brisa Hennessy.
La WSL solicitó a los surfistas que eligieran a una figura femenina de su país que les generara inspiración para que en la tercera parada del Tour Mundial 2022, que se realizará entre el 3 y 13 de marzo en el MEO Pro de Portugal, los competidores usen en su espalda el apellido de esa mujer.
Hennessy eligió usar el apellido de la velocista Andrea Vargas, quien obtuvo la presea de oro en los 100 metros con vallas de los Juegos Panamericanos y en los Juegos Olímpicos de Tokio 2020 finalizó en la novena posición general.
En una entrevista realizada por la WSL la surfista reconoció que Vargas, quien es abogada de profesión, madre de familia y esposa, es fuente de inspiración no solo para ella sino para todas las mujeres en Costa Rica.
“Es una de las atletas con las que estuve en Juegos Olímpicos y es una increíble vallista, es una mamá increíble y representa a Costa Rica y a las mujeres en Costa Rica…es especial como conectamos en los Juegos Olímpicos y la amistad que tuvimos”, declaró Hennessy.
Por esta razón es que en la tercera fecha del Tour Mundial 2022, donde Brisa es líder en la clasificación, usará el número 99 en su jersey, como costumbre, pero en el dorso en lugar de su apellido estará el de la velocista.
“Es una iniciativa increíble y es un gran mensaje que está enviando la WSL para resaltar a las mujeres”, indicó Hennessy.
Con profunda emoción Andrea Vargas respondió al gesto que tuvo Brisa con ella por medio de sus redes sociales.
“Gracias Brisa Hennessy por este hermoso detalle, un honor que me escogieras para celebrar este Día Internacional de la Mujer. Yo también soy una fan y la admiro mucho por su gran desempeño y coraje en las olas”, manifestó la vallista.
Competición
Brisa Hennessy obtuvo el boleto a octavos de final del MEO Pro en Portugal este jueves. La tica sumó un 10.47 como segunda mejor de su Heat, por debajo de la australiana Isabella Nichols que obtuvo un 12.50.
