Allanan mansión de exesposo de Lynda Díaz por caso de apuestas deportivas ilegales
Agentes federales confiscaron cinco autos de lujo, 61 lingotes de oro, $4,3 millones en efectivo, y un anillo de campeonato del Miami Heat.
Agentes federales allanaron la lujosa mansión de Clarence Gary Austin, exesposo de la exmodelo y empresaria Lynda Díaz, en Florida, Estados Unidos, como parte de las investigaciones por el caso de apuestas deportivas ilegales que, en apariencia, se realizaron desde Costa Rica.
Según recoge una publicación del diario digital Sun Sentinel, de Florida, la acción policial se realizó en abril anterior, pero fue dada a conocer hasta el miércoles pasado.
Por el momento no se han presentado cargos penales en el caso, pero en unos documentos presentados en un tribunal federal, se señala que se trata de una investigación sobre una: “empresa ilegal de apuestas por Internet de Austin que ha producido más de $34 millones en ingresos ilegales durante su operación”.
Los documentos indican que todo el dinero de Gary proviene de actividades ilegales: “Austin no tiene ingresos legítimos, excepto un cheque mensual del Seguro Social que recibe”.
Los fiscales aseguran que Gary Austin, de 80 años, es el propietario y operador de un sitio web de apuestas deportivas con sede en Costa Rica, llamado Tradewinds, firma que no aparece registrada en el país , y señalan que este ha operado ilegalmente desde 1998.
“La investigación reveló que Austin ha establecido una intrincada organización nacional e internacional de lavado de dinero y métodos para realizar subrepticiamente transacciones monetarias con las casas de apuestas y los apostadores ubicados en los EE. UU. para finalmente recibir y utilizar las ganancias ilícitas”, indicó uno de los investigadores del caso.
Además, los fiscales manifiestan que Austin: “Estableció numerosas corporaciones nacionales y extranjeras, entidades comerciales y fideicomisos” para almacenar el dinero.
Los documentos no explican dónde obtuvo Austin un anillo de los Miami Heat ni a quién perteneció.
Los fiscales dicen que Austin también es dueño de un condominio en Hollywood y una casa en Weston, en Florida.
La historia de amor con Lynda
El nombre de Gary Austin comenzó a tomar fuerza en los medios nacionales cuando el 13 de julio de 2002 contrajo nupcias con la también expresentadora de televisión Lynda Díaz.
La boda se convirtió en una de las más mediáticas en Costa Rica, se realizó en el Hotel Camino Real-Intercontinental en Escazú.
Contó con la presencia de más de 300 invitados, y la música estuvo a cargo de la Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional, y los grupos Éditus, Expresso y Requete.
Producto del amor entre Gary Austin y Lynda Díaz nacieron los gemelos Gary y Tiffany.
Díaz, quien es de origen puertoriqueño, siempre ha manifestado que lleva una excelente relación con el padre de sus hijos pese a la separación.
