Al grito de ¡libertad! una inédita ola de protestas recorre Cuba
Miles de cubanos salieron a las calles clamando libertad.
Cientos de cubanos salieron este domingo, 11 de julio de 2021, a las calles de La Habana al grito de «libertad» en manifestaciones pacíficas, que fueron interceptadas por las fuerzas de seguridad y brigadas de partidarios del Gobierno, generándose enfrentamientos violentos y arrestos.
Los choques entre los manifestantes y los pro-Gobierno se produjeron en el céntrico Parque de la Fraternidad, frente al Capitolio, donde llegaron a congregarse más de un millar de personas con una fuerte presencia de las fuerzas militares y policiales, que llevaron a cabo varios arrestos.
La mayor protesta en 27 años
Al lugar también acudieron brigadas organizadas de partidarios del Gobierno, que gritaron “Yo soy Fidel” o “Canel, amigo, el pueblo está contigo”.
El suceso podría hacer historia, ya que es la primera vez que un grupo grande de cubanos sale a las calles de La Habana a protestar contra el Gobierno desde el famoso “Maleconazo” de 1994, en plena crisis del “período especial”.
Apagón de Internet
La manifestación en La Habana llegó después de una oleada de protestas espontáneas este mismo domingo, 11 de julio de 2021, en diferentes puntos del país, la primera de ellas en San Antonio de los Baños, donde una masa de personas salió a las calles para pedir libertad y criticar al Gobierno por la falta de alimentos, medicinas y los continuos apagones que sufre esta localidad, que está 30 kilómetros al este de la capital.
La manifestación de San Antonio, duramente reprimida por la Policía según relataron testigos, fue transmitida en directo por Facebook hasta el corte de Internet, lo que presumiblemente encendió la mecha de actos similares en otras localidades como Güira de Melena y Alquízar (occidente), Palma Soriano (oriente), Cienfuegos (centro) y La Habana.
El presidente culpa a EE.UU.
Las manifestaciones surgieron en un momento de fuerte crisis en Cuba, que sufre una preocupante escasez de medicamentos y productos básicos, y además pasa por la tercera y peor ola de Covid-19, con índices de contagios extremadamente altos en las regiones más afectadas.
El presidente de Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, aseguró este lunes que Estados Unidos tiene «una política de asfixia económica para provocar estallidos sociales en el país», un día después de protestas históricas contra el Gobierno.
En una transmisión en directo en la televisión, el mandatario indicó que su gobierno ha tratado de «enfrentar y de vencer las dificultades ante una política de asfixia económica para provocar estallidos sociales en el país».
