Daniel Ortega llega a 14 años seguidos en la Presidencia de Nicaragua
Ortega tiene como compañera de fórmula vicepresidencial a su esposa, la poetisa Rosario Murillo. El presidente se alista para su cuarta reelección y tercera consecutiva desde el 2007.
El presidente de Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, cumple este domingo 10 de enero 14 años consecutivos en el poder con un absoluto control político y militar, ejerciendo un fuerte dominio frente sus opositores. Es aliado de Cuba, Rusia y Venezuela, y está enemistado con Estados Unidos y con los obispos nicaragüenses. Además, espera tener un nuevo mandato de cinco años.
El exguerrillero sandinista de 75 años retornó al poder el 10 de enero de 2007 tras coordinar una Junta de Gobierno de 1979 a 1985 y presidir por primera vez el país entre 1985 y 1990. Con mano de hierro y habilidad busca aferrarse al poder por cinco años más en los comicios de noviembre próximo.
Ortega, quien desde el 2017 tiene como compañera de fórmula vicepresidencial a su esposa, la poetisa Rosario Murillo, se alista para su cuarta reelección y tercera consecutiva desde 2007, sin permitir hasta ahora la libre movilización y organización a los opositores, que lo catalogan como un “dictador”.
Para asegurar su dominio político, el gobernador ha promovido leyes con las que, a discreción, puede etiquetar como “traidores a la patria” o “agente extranjero” a sus contrincantes y vetar sus candidaturas.
Gobierna país pobre y polarizado
El líder sandinista, que dirige el país más empobrecido de Centroamérica y el tercero más pobre de América, aplastó a la fuerza la revuelta popular que estalló en abril de 2018 por una controvertida reforma a la seguridad social. La represión dejó cientos de muertos, detenidos y decenas de miles en el exilio. Como respuesta, además, tildó la manifestación como un “fallido intento de golpe de Estado”.
Desde entonces, cualquier disenso o protesta es neutralizada por la Policía Nacional, que dirige su consuegro, Francisco Díaz, y de la que Ortega se enorgullece por sus raíces sandinistas.
