Particulares en EU ofrecen hasta 15 millones de colones para acceder primero a vacuna contra Covid
Quieren «saltarse» la fila y vacunarse antes que los trabajadores del campo y los bomberos
Residentes particulares y ricos en California ofrecen hasta 25 mil dólares(aproximadamente 15 millones de colones) para tener acceso prioritario a la vacuna contra Covid-19 en Estados Unidos, publicó este domingo Los Angeles Times.
El rotativo obtuvo declaraciones de personal médico en California, quienes aseguran que hay personas que ofrecen «decenas de miles de dólares», a través de sus asistentes personales, para molestar a los médicos y preguntar si hacer donaciones a los hospitales les ayudaría a saltarse la fila de espera.
«Recibimos cientos de llamadas diariamente», dijo al diario angelino el doctor Ehsan Ali, quien dirige el hospital Beverly Hills Concierge Doctor.
Como todo el mundo, California ha recibido pocas dosis de vacunas para atender el Covid-19, por lo tanto se estableció un orden estricto para la vacunación de las personas y por ser el segundo estado más golpeado por el coronavirus en territorio estadounidense, California priorizó a los trabajadores de salud, trabajadores escenciales y personas con enfermedades crónicas para la vacunación.
Esto ha incomodado a los sectores más privilegiados del estado, pues según Los Angeles Times, pese al orden establecido por el gobierno, las personas con poder, dinero e influencia no se han detenido en intentar acceder a la vacunación antes que los maestros, trabajadores del campo y bomberos.
El doctor Jeff Toll, del Centro Médico Cedars-Sinai, uno de los primeros hospitales en acceder a la vacuna, recordó que paciente le preguntó: «Si dono 25 mil dólares al Cedars, me ayudaría a ponerme en la línea (de vacunación)».
Asimismo, consideró Toll, los doctores que reciben estas propuestas tienen que estar satisfechos al decirle a las personas ricas: «No». De la misma manera que lo hacen cuando se les solicita algún medicamento inapropiado.
Ante estos intentos de brincarse las indicaciones oficiales, el gobernador de California, Gavin Newsom, advirtió que el estado será «muy agresivo para asegurar que aquellos con medios, aquellos con influencias, no van a desplazar a aquellos más necesitados de vacunas».
«Aquellos que piensan que pueden revasar la línea y aquellos que piensan que porque tienen recursos o tienen influencias que les permitirá lograrlo… también los monitorearemos muy, muy de cerca», sentenció.
EU supera los 19 millones de casos
Estados Unidos superó el domingo los 19 millones de casos confirmados de coronavirus desde que comenzó la pandemia, según información compilada por la Universidad Johns Hopkins.
El país rebasó esa marca apenas seis días después de que llegó a 18 millones. El número de casos confirmados en la nación se ha duplicado en menos de dos meses.
Los fallecimientos por Covid-19 en Estados Unidos también han estado aumentando, y ahora suman más de 332 mil, lo que equivale a más de una muerte por cada mil estadounidenses. Hasta el sábado, el país tenía 331 millones de habitantes aproximadamente, según la Oficina del Censo.
