Mueren nueve pacientes en una explosión en una UCI de Covid-19 en Turquía

Al menos nueve enfermos de Covid-19 han muerto este sábado y once han resultado heridos por la explosión de un tubo de oxígeno en una Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos (UCI) en un hospital en Gaziantep, en el sur de Turquía.
El accidente se produjo a las 01.45 GMT de la mañana, cuando explotó un aparato que suministraba oxígeno a uno de los pacientes, señaló la gobernación de la provincia de Gaziantep en un comunicado.

«Ocho de los 19 pacientes hospitalizados en la UCI han perdido la vida. Otros once han sido trasladado a otros hospitales de la región», detalla el comunicado.
Un equipo de bomberos y policías fue enviado al lugar del acccidente inmediatamente para apagar el fuego originado por la explosión y trasladar a los enfermos a otros edificios.

Las autoridades han iniciado una investigación judicial y administrativa sobre los hechos.
«Los pacientes fallecidos tenían entre 64 y 85 años. Siete murieron en la UCI y otro durante el traslado al otro hospital», señaló a Efe Okkes Ozeksi, editor del diario local Gaziantep27.
Las unidades de cuidados intensivos en Turquía tienen actualmente una tasa de ocupación de camas del 74% debido al brote de coronavirus, según cifras del gobierno, aunque las asociaciones médicas dicen que la cifra es más alta y los hospitales están llenos de pacientes con Covid-19.
