OMS viajará a Wuhan para hallar el verdadero origen del COVID-19 y no será “supervisada” por China
Así lo confirmó Michael Ryan durante una rueda de prensa. La misión de la OMS está compuesta por diez científicos de varios países. Aún falta definir una fecha
A pocas semanas de concluir un año marcado por la pandemia de COVID-19, el equipo internacional de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) encargado de investigar el origen del nuevo coronavirus que provocó la pandemia visitará la región china de Wuhan, donde se originó la epidemia, sin ser “supervisado” por Pekín, aseguró este viernes la agencia.
Previamente, esta semana, la OMS había indicado que la misión internacional viajaría a China en enero, pero no aportó más detalles sobre qué lugares visitará ni sobre el día de su llegada. Sin embargo durante la conferencia de prensa de este viernes, se profundizó en este tema.
“El equipo irá a Wuhan, es el objetivo de la misión”, declaró esta vez el responsable de situaciones de emergencia sanitaria en la OMS, Michael Ryan, en la rueda de prensa.

“Trabajaremos con nuestros colegas chinos”, explicó Ryan. “No estarán, como dicen ustedes, supervisados por funcionarios chinos”, agregó, respondiendo a la pregunta de un periodista.
Ryan explicó que todavía no hay prevista una fecha para el viaje, aunque afirmó esperar que se realice “la primera semana de enero”.
Asimismo, indicó que los expertos tendrán que guardar cuarentena a su llegada, y que pasarán por Pekín como un gesto de “cortesía” hacia las autoridades chinas.
En general, los científicos piensan que el huésped original del virus es un murciélago, pero no se sabe todavía qué animal intermedio hizo que se contagiaran los humanos.
La misión de la OMS está compuesta por diez científicos de varios países reputados en sus diferentes ámbitos, y tiene como objetivo averiguar cómo se transmitió el virus a los seres humanos.
Desde finales de octubre, los expertos de la OMS se han reunido por videoconferencia varias veces con sus homólogos chinos.
Pero Estados Unidos ha acusado públicamente a Pekín de esconder datos y a la OMS de ser demasiado condescendiente con las autoridades chinas.
