Jill Biden, la futura primera dama de EE.UU. que seguirá trabajando como profesora
La esposa del presidente electo, Joe Biden, le apasiona tanto su profesión que cuando se convierta en primera dama continuará dictando clases de inglés.
‘’Enseñar no es lo que hago, es lo que soy’’, sostiene Jill Biden, la esposa del presidente electo de Estados Unidos, Joe Biden. A ella le gusta tanto ser profesora que cuando le concedan el título de primera dama el 20 de enero de 2021 tiene la intención de seguir ejerciendo su carrera de más de 36 años.
A sus 69 años, Jill Biden, dicta clases de inglés en la universidad comunitaria de Virginia. Tiene un doctorado y dos másteres, nunca ha dejado su profesión, ni siquiera en los 8 años en los que fue segunda dama durante el gobierno de Barack Obama.
‘’Soy una mujer trabajadora. Enseñar es mi pasión, es lo que amo hacer. Ha sido mi carrera y el mayor foco de mi vida, así que creo que puedo gestionarlo y hacer todo lo que las primeras damas quieren hacer’’, declaró a la revista Vogue.
‘’Ella me devolvió la vida’’
Jill Tracy Biden (de soltera Jacobs) nació el 3 de junio de 1951 en Nueva Jersey, pero se crió cerca de Philadelphia. De origen italiano (su abuelo cambió el apellido original, Giacoppo, por Jacobs), estudió en la Universidad de Delaware y entre 1970 y 1975 estuvo casada con su novio del instituto, informa EFE.
Tras su divorcio conoció en una cita a ciegas a Joe Biden, que por aquel entonces estaba viudo y tenía dos hijos pequeños, Beau y Hunter, quienes sobrevivieron a un terrible accidente de tránsito en el que su otra hija de un año, Amy, murió con su esposa.
‘’Yo era estudiante de último año, y había estado saliendo con chicos que usaban tejanos y camiseta. Pero él vino a tocar la puerta vestido con un abrigo deportivo y mocasines, y pensé: ‘Dios, esto nunca va a funcionar, ni en un millón de años’. ¡Era nueve años mayor que yo!’’, reveló Jill, que en 1977 se casó con Joe y en 1981 tuvieron a una hija, Ashley.
A pesar de que tuvieron afinidad desde el primer momento, Jill tuvo que pensarlo bien antes de aceptar casarse con Joe porque según ha explicado, ‘’no podía permitir que ellos (hijos de Joe) perdiera a otra madre. Así que tenía que estar 100% segura’’.
‘’Ella me devolvió la vida’’, confesó Joe Biden en sus memorias.
En 2015, un dolor profundo embargó a la familia, el hijo de Joe Biden, Beau, murió de cáncer cerebral.
‘’Aprendió a curar una familia, y de la misma manera nosotros curamos a un país: con amor, comprensión, pequeños gestos de bondad, coraje y una esperanza inquebrantable’’, contó a Vogue.
