30 personas fueron detenidas por ser sospechosas de estafar a varios extranjeros por al menos un $1 millón
Las detenciones se dieron tras 14 allanamientos realizados el día de hoy en distintas partes del país.
Este miércoles 27 de setiembre, agentes del Organismo de Investigación Judicial (OIJ) dieron con la detención de 30 personas sospechosas de integrar un grupo delictivo encargado de estafar a adultos mayores estadounidenses desde Costa Rica.
De acuerdo con el reporte de las autoridades, las investigaciones contra esta agrupación iniciaron debido a información recibida por parte de agentes del Buró Federal de Investigaciones (FBI, sigla en inglés) donde detallaban que al parecer había un grupo criminal asentado en territorio costarricense y el cual generaba una serie de estafas a víctimas en su mayoría adultos mayores de nacionalidad estadounidenses.
Y tras una serie de investigaciones, se logró determinar que al parecer las víctimas, quienes residen en Estados Unidos, habrían hecho dichos depósitos de dinero a cuentas bancarias en Costa Rica ligadas con los sospechosos que fueron detenidos el día de hoy.
Asimismo, las autoridades indicaron que de acuerdo a un muestreo de víctimas realizado por el FBI, se tiene un estimado de perjuicio económico de aproximadamente un millón de dólares y el cual en apariencia podría aumentar.
Los sospechosos fueron identificados con los siguientes apellidos:
Fonseca Krone, Vindas Badilla (mujer), Sánchez Murillo, Zavaleta Fallas, Calvo Quirós, Hannigan, Brenes Poulos, Brenes Artavia, Aguirre Jr, Paniagua Rojas, Chacón Krone, Chaves Dubón, Chaves Zeledón, Santana Artavia, Guevara Rodríguez, Rivas Baltodano, Kaine Hidalgo, Williams Mowse, Arias Guzmán, Coto Cortés, Poveda Acuña, Méndez Bolaños, Seaward Hardy, Hanson Welky (mujer), Hermogenes Hanson, Díaz Quesada, Campos Chanto, Murillo Desanti, Lynn Griddin y Rivas Baltodano.
Con respecto a los allanamientos en total se realizaron 14, todos en casas de habitación de alta plusvalía, las cuales aparentemente eran alquiladas por la organización criminal y las cuales se ubicaban en sectores como:
Escazú, Tibás, Curridabat, La Unión de Cartago, Pavas, Ciudad Colón, San Isidro de Heredia, Aserrí y Santa Ana.
Tras dichas intervenciones las autoridades de momento han decomisado ocho carros de interés económico y más de 180 mil dólares en efectivo.
Los detenidos quedaron con un informe a las órdenes del Ministerio Público, para que se les determine situación jurídica y se les indagará por ser sospechosos de legitimación de capitales y estafa.
Al parecer las personas detenidas comenzaron sus irregularidades entre julio del 2019 y setiembre del 2023.
