Rodrigo Chaves: “Costa Rica es el tipo de vecino que a Estados Unidos le interesa y quisiera tener”

El presidente de Costa Rica, Rodrigo Chaves, concluyó su gira por Estados Unidos en el marco de la Alianza para la Prosperidad Económica en las Américas.
Chaves hizo un balance de la visita y destacó que este tipo de eventos revitalizan las relaciones diplomáticas y comerciales entre Costa Rica y Estados Unidos.
El mandatario indicó que en el pasado, estas relaciones estaban distantes debido a la actitud fría de Estados Unidos hacia las políticas implementadas por anteriores mandatarios costarricenses.
“Esto es una pareja de países que decidieron acercarse, creo que en el pasado quisieron hacerlo, pero Estados Unidos se mantuvo frío de alguna manera. Lo que me dicen los oficiales de alto nivel estadounidense es que están viendo lo hacemos como país en temas de migraciones (…). Ven en Costa Rica el tipo de vecino que a Estados Unidos le interesa y quisiera tener”, declaró Chaves a Diario Extra.
Según el mandatario, las autoridades norteamericanas ahora ven en Costa Rica un vecino de interés debido a las políticas implementadas recientemente.
Una de las noticias que captó la mayor atención tras las reuniones bilaterales fue el anuncio de Joe Biden, en el que reveló que Costa Rica será el escenario de la próxima cumbre entre líderes.
“Ven en Costa Rica, recientemente, una luz que se encendió en la oscuridad de un hemisferio que se encuentra en problemas. Fíjese, Biden nos pidió que fuéramos la sede, nos sugirió como sede de la próxima cumbre, por algo será”, manifestó Chaves.
Igualmente, subrayó que los encuentros con legisladores y senadores estadounidenses son una forma de legítimo acercamiento entre ambas naciones con miras a un posible ingreso de Costa Rica al Tratado de Libre Comercio de América del Norte, que incluye a México, Canadá y Estados Unidos.
