Laura Chinchilla y Miguel Ángel Rodríguez participaron como observadores en elecciones en México
Los expresidentes de la República, Miguel Ángel Rodríguez (1998-2002) y Laura Chinchilla (2010-2014), participaron este domingo como observadores internacionales en las elecciones de México, donde se elegirá a la primera presidenta de ese país.
Rodríguez, de 84 años de edad, formó parte de los observadores internacionales como invitado de la Organización Demócrata Cristiana de América (ODCA).
“Hoy la verdad es que ha progresado mucho esta colonia, es muy grande, tres millones de habitantes. Acá la gente vota muy bien, una fila muy grande de participantes. En una sala de votación había unas 14 a 16 mesas dónde la gente estaba votando muy ordenadamente. ¡Viva México!”, manifestó Rodríguez.
Por su parte, Chinchilla fue invitada por el Tribunal Electoral del Poder Judicial de la Federación de México.
“Un acontecimiento que se inserta en un proceso ejemplar de empoderamiento político de la mujer que le ha permitido al país contar con un congreso paritario”, indicó Chinchilla en su cuenta en “X”.

Todo apunta a que México tendrá su primera mujer presidenta tras las elecciones del 2 de junio, para las que Claudia Sheinbaum, de la coalición oficialista Sigamos Haciendo Historia, y Xóchitl Gálvez, de la alianza opositora Fuerza y Corazón por México, son las favoritas.
Solo un tercer candidato, Jorge Álvarez Máynez, del Movimiento Ciudadano, compite con ellas, aunque figura mucho más abajo en las encuestas, luego de que ocho aspirantes independientes quedaran fuera de los comicios por no obtener el número de firmas requerido, equivalente al 1% del electorado.
Sheinbaum, de 61 años, es una física e ingeniera ambiental reconocida por sus investigaciones científicas y su promoción de políticas de eficiencia energética y sostenibilidad. En 2007 fue una de las ganadoras del Premio Nobel de la Paz por su trabajo en el Panel Intergubernamental sobre el Cambio Climático de la ONU, y entre 2018 y 2023 fue la primera alcaldesa mujer de Ciudad de México.
Gálvez, también de 61 años, es ingeniera en computación y empresaria. De origen indígena, creció en la pobreza y, tras graduarse en la universidad gracias a una beca, lanzó lucrativas compañías tecnológicas. Ingresó a la política en 2000, cuando Vicente Fox la nombró al frente de la Comisión Nacional para el Desarrollo de los Pueblos Indígenas, y fue senadora entre 2018 y 2023.
