Estudiante del TEC gana reconocimiento internacional con su revolucionario proyecto
Merylin Seas Jiménez: La Estudiante del TEC Que Impactó el Congreso Latinoamericano con su Innovador Proyecto
En el reciente XXIX Congreso Latinoamericano de Estudiantes de Ingeniería Química y Afines (COLAEIQ), celebrado en El Salvador, Merylin Seas Jiménez, estudiante de Ingeniería en Materiales del Tecnológico de Costa Rica (TEC), se destacó al obtener el segundo lugar en la categoría de carteles. Su proyecto innovador, que se centra en la detección rápida de bacterias, ha captado la atención de la comunidad científica y tecnológica.
Innovación en la Detección de Bacterias
Merylin Seas presentó su investigación sobre la funcionalización de electrodos de oro con aptámeros para la creación de un biosensor impedimétrico. Este dispositivo avanzado, conocido como aptasensor, está diseñado para detectar de manera eficiente la bacteria Brucella abortus, causante de la brucelosis, una enfermedad que afecta tanto a animales como a humanos.
La estudiante explicó que su proyecto busca ofrecer una solución rápida y precisa para la detección de esta bacteria, lo cual es crucial en la industria alimentaria y en la salud pública. “El aptasensor puede detectar la bacteria sin procedimientos complicados ni costosos, ayudando a prevenir pérdidas significativas en la producción de leche y carne, y mejorando la salud pública al reducir la transmisión de la brucelosis de animales a humanos”, detalló Merylin.
Una Experiencia Enriquecedora
La participación de Seas en el congreso no solo fue una oportunidad para presentar su innovador proyecto, sino también para crecer profesional y personalmente. Interactuar con expertos de diversas áreas de la ingeniería química le permitió aprender y compartir conocimientos, destacando el impacto de la nanotecnología y la química aplicada en Costa Rica.
“La competencia de carteles fue una plataforma valiosa para recibir retroalimentación de un panel de jueces compuesto por académicos y profesionales destacados. Mi participación significó una gran oportunidad para resaltar el trabajo que estamos desarrollando y para recibir opiniones que ayudarán a mejorar nuestro proyecto”, comentó la estudiante.
Progreso en el Proyecto
El trabajo de Merylin Seas se encuentra actualmente en la fase de funcionalización química, una etapa crucial para el éxito del proyecto. Este proceso es fundamental para el desarrollo completo del sistema microfluídico para la detección de Brucella abortus. Seas está comprometida en asegurar que cada etapa del proyecto se lleve a cabo con precisión, contribuyendo al avance de la ciencia y la tecnología en su campo.
