¿Cuándo será el día más largo y la noche más corta de 2024?
El Instituto Meteorológico Nacional (IMN) informa sobre la proximidad del solsticio de junio, conocido también como el solsticio de verano en el hemisferio norte, que ocurrirá el 20 de junio.
Este evento astronómico es significativo porque es el día en que el sol permanece visible por más tiempo sobre el horizonte, resultando en el día más largo y la noche más corta del año en el hemisferio norte.
La causa de este fenómeno es la inclinación del eje norte-sur de la Tierra en 23,4 grados hacia el Sol. Esta inclinación provoca que diferentes regiones del planeta reciban distintas cantidades de luz solar.
Por ejemplo, en ciudades como Madrid y Nueva York, la duración del día puede extenderse hasta 15 horas y 1 minuto.
En regiones tropicales, como Costa Rica, la diferencia es menos pronunciada; el Sol saldrá a las 5:17 a.m. y se ocultará a las 5:59 p.m., ofreciendo 12 horas y 42 minutos de luz natural.
A pesar de que el solsticio de junio proporciona al hemisferio norte más horas de luz solar que cualquier otro día del año, esto no implica que sea el día más caliente del año. En Costa Rica, los meses más calurosos suelen ser entre marzo y mayo, antes del solsticio. En latitudes más altas, los días más calurosos suelen ocurrir después del solsticio, entre julio y agosto.
