Bukele Asegura que El Salvador es Más Seguro que Costa Rica
El presidente de El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, afirmó recientemente en una cadena nacional que su país ha superado a Costa Rica en términos de seguridad. Según Bukele, El Salvador es ahora un lugar más seguro que países tradicionalmente estables como Costa Rica y Canadá. “Nadie, ni dentro ni fuera de El Salvador, hubiera imaginado que seríamos más seguros que nuestro vecino más estable, Costa Rica”, expresó.
Transformación de El Salvador bajo el Gobierno de Bukele
Desde su llegada al poder, Bukele emprendió una fuerte ofensiva contra las pandillas que históricamente dominaron las calles salvadoreñas, colocando al país en los rankings más altos de violencia a nivel mundial. Mediante un régimen de excepción, su gobierno ha reducido significativamente los homicidios, pero las tácticas utilizadas han sido duramente criticadas por organismos internacionales y defensores de derechos humanos. La administración Bukele ha sido acusada de restringir libertades civiles y de reprimir la prensa independiente.
Según datos de la Policía Nacional Civil de El Salvador, entre enero y el 28 de junio de 2024, se registraron solo 57 homicidios, lo que representa una reducción considerable en comparación con años anteriores.
Reacciones en Costa Rica ante las Declaraciones de Bukele
DIARIO EXTRA buscó la reacción del ministro de Seguridad Pública de Costa Rica, Mario Zamora, quien prefirió no opinar sobre las palabras de Bukele, señalando que no es competencia de su cartera evaluar declaraciones de mandatarios extranjeros. El canciller costarricense, Arnoldo André, también fue consultado y expresó que Costa Rica celebra la disminución de homicidios en El Salvador, pero destacó que ambos países enfrentan situaciones muy distintas.
“El Salvador viene de una historia de conflicto armado, mientras que Costa Rica ha tenido una trayectoria diferente. Nos alegra que ellos estén logrando resultados positivos, y nosotros también estamos trabajando arduamente para reducir nuestras propias tasas de homicidio”, explicó el canciller André.
Además, el diplomático confirmó que Bukele tiene previsto visitar Costa Rica entre noviembre y diciembre de este año, lo que podría abrir la puerta a un diálogo sobre seguridad regional.
Críticas al Régimen de Bukele
A pesar de los logros en seguridad, el enfoque de Bukele ha sido cuestionado por diversos sectores. El régimen de excepción implementado en El Salvador ha sido acusado de violar derechos humanos y llevar a la detención de miles de personas sin un debido proceso. Estas acciones han generado preocupación en la comunidad internacional, que observa con cautela el modelo de seguridad del mandatario salvadoreño.
