Un corazón artificial saldrá a la venta este año
A partir del segundo semestre de este 2021 saldrá a la venta un #corazón artificial, el cual brindará esperanza a miles de personas.
Autoridades médicas europeas dieron el visto bueno a que una compañía francesa saque a la venta un corazón artificial. Carmat, el fabricante, señala que estos dispositivos son ahora un “puente al trasplante” y no un implante permanente.
Aunque la autorización se dio en diciembre de 2020, será a partir del segundo trimestre de este 2021 que saldrán al mercado.
“Seguimos con nuestra ambición de tratar a todos los pacientes que necesitan un corazón”, explicó Stephane Piat, director ejecutivo de Carmat. Según estimaron, tan solo en Francia, Alemania, Italia, España y Reino Unido, hay cerca de 2,000 personas esperando un trasplante.
El primero en tener acceso a este dispositivo será Alemania, seguido por Francia y otros países. Debido a que el precio por unidad supera los 150 mil euros, la compañía espera que los sistemas de seguridad social ayuden a adquirir estos dispositivos.
La empresa quiere expandirse a otros países fuera de Europa, por ello anunciaron que este semestre iniciarán estudios en Estados Unidos para obtener la aprobación de la Administración de Alimentos y Medicamentos (FDA, por sus siglas en inglés).
Será en 2024 que la FDA decida si este dispositivo se puede o no distribuir en su país, y con ello al resto del mundo.

El mecanismo está diseñado para reemplazar el corazón natural durante cinco años. Tiene un peso de 900 gramos, aproximadamente tres veces más que un corazón humano normal. La prótesis fue desarrollada a partir de componentes orgánicos y materiales utilizados en la industria aérea.
