Trump pide abrir lugares de culto en medio de pandemia: ‘’Necesitamos más oración’’
El presidente de Estados Unidos calificó a los templos como ‘’lugares esenciales’’.
El presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, pidió a los gobernadores estatales permitir que los lugares de culto se reabran de inmediato, a medida que el país avanza gradualmente hacia un levantamiento de las medidas de cierre por la pandemia de COVID-19.
«Insto a los gobernadores a permitir que nuestras iglesias y lugares de culto se reabran», señaló, tras considerar los templos «lugares esenciales que brindan servicios esenciales», y agregó que podría anular la decisión de los gobernadores a fin de forzar la reapertura si éstos no lo hicieran, aunque no especificó cómo.
El mandatario republicano señaló que «algunos gobernadores han designado licorerías y clínicas donde se realizan abortos como esenciales, pero han dejado de lado las iglesias y otros lugares de culto. No está bien».
Determinar qué constituye servicios esenciales ha sido una prerrogativa de los funcionarios estatales y locales, en lugar del gobierno federal, y muchos han restringido la celebración de servicios grupales en las casas de culto para frenar la propagación del nuevo coronavirus.
