Tras tomar licor de contrabando, doce personas murieron: la tragedia ocurrió durante una boda

Una docena de indonesios murieron y cuatro se encuentran en estado crítico después de beber licor de contrabando, dijeron las autoridades este lunes, 30 de octubre de 2023.
La mayoría de los indonesios practican una forma moderada del islam y el alcohol está disponible en las grandes ciudades, pero los altos impuestos lo encarecen y algunas personas pueden recurrir a licores caseros potencialmente peligrosos.
El hospital general del distrito de Subang, administrado por el Gobierno, en la provincia de Java Occidental, ingresó el sábado a 18 víctimas por «intoxicación por alcohol», dijo el portavoz del hospital, Wawan Gunawan.
«Hay cinco personas bajo observación y 11 personas murieron (en el hospital)», dijo Gunawan a la AFP el lunes, precisando que las víctimas tenían entre 16 y 45 años.
Otra víctima fue declarada muerta al llegar al hospital, añadió Gunawan. Las víctimas murieron después de comprar el licor de contrabando para consumirlo en una fiesta de boda el sábado, según un informe de la Policía local.
Cuatro de las víctimas estaban en estado crítico y una se estaba recuperando, dijo Gunawan. La Policía arrestó a un sospechoso en relación con el incidente, dijo el jefe de Policía de Subang, Ariek Indra Sentanu.
Los medios locales informaron que una decimotercera víctima había muerto después de que su familia solicitara el alta temprana del hospital, pero Gunawan no pudo confirmar su estado.
En 2018, más de 60 indonesios murieron por beber alcohol casero barato y la Policía realizó redadas en todo el país para arrestar a más de media docena de vendedores, incluido uno que mezcló repelente de mosquitos en su brebaje.
En 2016, 36 personas murieron en Java Central después de beber alcohol de elaboración local.
