Naciones Unidas estimó que siete millones de mujeres tendrán embarazos no deseados durante la pandemia del coronavirus.
Naciones Unidas señaló que «en los próximos meses» siete millones de mujeres tendrán embarazos no deseados durante la pandemia del coronavirus debido, sobre todo, a la incapacidad para obtener anticonceptivos.
Según el organismo, en caso que las órdenes de confinamiento se mantengan durante seis meses, 47 millones de mujeres en países de renta media y baja no tendrán acceso a anticonceptivos modernos. En este contexto, si las medidas sanitarias por el coronavirus permanecieran un año, podría haber hasta 15 millones de embarazos no deseados.
También es más probable que la recesión económica ocasionada por el coronavirus tenga un gran impacto en los niveles de pobreza en los países de bajos ingresos, donde el matrimonio infantil es más frecuente, ya que se utiliza para aliviar la carga económica de las hijas.
«Los datos muestran el catastrófico impacto que puede tener pronto la Covid-19 en las mujeres y las niñas de todo el mundo», señaló la directora ejecutiva del Fondo de Población de Naciones Unidas, Natalia Kanem. De todos, la directora admitió que los cálculos propuestos son provisionales y dependerán de cómo evolucione la pandemia.
