Principal fabricante de ivermectina descarta que fármaco prevenga la COVID-19
Merck Global emitió un comunicado donde aclara que su producto no reúne los requisitos médicos para usarse como tratamiento preventivo contra la COVID-19.
Merck Global, un laboratorio científico estadounidense ubicado en Kenilworth, Nueva Jersey, ha confirmado su posición sobre el uso de su producto, el Stromectol, nombre con el cual comercializa la ivermectina en EE. UU.
“Los científicos de la compañía continúan examinando los descubrimientos de todos los estudios disponibles y emergentes de la ivermectina para el tratamiento de la COVID-19″, detalla el comunicado publicado el jueves 4 de febrero.
A la fecha, las investigaciones a cargo de Merck han identificado tres conclusiones que el texto resalta:
- No hay ninguna base científica para un potencial efecto terapéutico contra la COVID-19 de estudios preclínicos
- Existe una preocupante falta de seguridad de datos en la mayoría de los estudios.
- El laboratorio también precisa que no creen que los datos disponibles hasta el momento respalden la seguridad y la eficacia de la ivermectina.
El Stromectol es un antiparasitario comercializado en EE. UU. para el tratamiento de la estrongiloidiasis intestinal y oncocercosis. “El Stromectol no tiene ninguna actividad contra los parásitos del onchocerca volvulus”, aclara también el laboratorio en su comunicado.
