El presidente de Sudáfrica, Cyril Ramaphosa , volvió a imponer el toque de queda nocturno y suspendió la venta de alcohol para controlar frente a una nueva respuesta del nuevo coronavirus que podría saturar el sistema sanitario.
Hasta el momento, el país africano tiene 264.184 casos confirmados de COVID-19 y 3.971 fallecimientos.
Para reactivar la economía, el gobierno decidió en mayo comenzar a levantar las restricciones que impuso en marzo y las modificaciones de nuevo la venta de alcohol para consumir en casa , algo que ahora quedará de nuevo prohibido.
Por su parte, el toque de queda se aplicará entre las 21 y las 4 horas, desde el lunes, y estará prohibido visitar a la familia.
«Ahora hay evidencia clara de que la reanudación de la venta de alcohol ha resultado en una presión considerable sobre los hospitales, incluidos los traumatismos y las unidades de cuidados intensivos, debido a accidentes automovilísticos, violencia y traumas inducidos por el alcohol «, dijo Ramaphosa .
