Pareja casada durante 70 años muere por COVID-19 con días de diferencia
Derek Firth y Margaret, ambos de 91 años, fallecieron en el Hospital General de Trafford, en Inglaterra. Tuvieron la oportunidad de verse por última vez antes de morir.
En Inglaterra, una pareja, que tenía 70 años de matrimonio, murió a causa del virus SARS-CoV-2 con tres días de diferencia en la localidad de Partington, condado de Gran Mánchester, informó el portal Manchester Evening News.
Se trata de Margaret y Derek Firth, ambos de 91 años. quienes tuvieron la posibilidad de verse por última vez antes de perder la vida.
Los dos ancianos fallecieron en las instalaciones del Hospital General de Trafford la semana pasada: Derek el 31 de enero y Margaret el 3 de febrero.
Según detalló el medio británico, la pareja se conocía desde los 14 años y tuvieron cinco hijos, 11 nietos y cuatro bisnietos.
Una de las hijas de la pareja, Barbara Smith, indicó que cuando su padre llegó al establecimiento sanitario después de pasar por otro centro médico previamente, Margaret preguntó: “¿Dónde has estado?” y que “a partir de entonces pareció mejorar, pareció darle un impulso”.
Asimismo, señaló que, pese al sufrimiento de perder a sus seres queridos, le causó mucha conmoción que tuvieran la oportunidad de encontrarse para darse el último adiós.
“Fue un momento bastante triste, pero fue realmente encantador que ambos estuvieran juntos”, declaró al Manchester Evening News.
Tras perder a sus padres, Barbara rindió homenaje al trabajo de los profesionales de la salud del nosocomio, que también permitió las visitas de otras familias antes de su fallecimiento.
Margaret y Derek contrajeron nupcias en mayo de 1950 y residieron en la localidad británica de Partington la mayor parte de sus vidas.
