OMS notificó más de 13.000 muertes por la COVID-19 en las últimas 24 horas
Esta es la mayor cifra de fallecidos en un día durante todo un año de pandemia de COVID-19.
La Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) notificó este 2 de enero 13.997 muertes en las últimas 24 horas, la mayor cifra en un año de pandemia de la COVID-19. El total de fallecimientos desde el comienzo de la crisis sanitaria asciende a 1,8 millones.
Los casos de COVID-19 rozan los 82 millones. 693.000 de ellos fueron registrados en la última jornada, un ascenso con respecto a días anteriores, pero que aún no alcanza la cifra récord del pasado 20 de diciembre (841.000 contagios en un día).
América, que notificó 6.300 muertes en el último día de 2020, suma 858.000 decesos, mientras que Europa registra 5.900 fallecimientos y cuenta 582.000 casos desde el inicio de la pandemia.
Estados Unidos continúa siendo el país con mayor número de fallecidos (335.000), seguido de Brasil (193.000), India (148.000) y México (124.000). Continúan cuatro países europeos: Italia (74.000 muertes), Reino Unido (73.000), Francia (64.000) y Rusia (57.000).
Los pacientes recuperados en el planeta ascienden a 59 millones, mientras que, de los 22 millones de casos activos, un 0,5% (106.000) se encuentran en estado grave o crítico.
Desde el comienzo de la pandemia, la cantidad de pruebas efectuadas aumentó considerablemente y las técnicas de rastreo mejoraron, provocando un alza en los contagios declarados. Sin embargo, la cantidad de pacientes diagnosticados con el virus solo refleja una parte de la totalidad de contagios. Los casos menos graves o asintomáticos siguen sin ser detectados.
