OMS insta a los países a «estar preparados» para eventuales rebrotes del coronavirus
El organismo de las Naciones Unidas alertó sobre este fenómeno que ya se manifestó en varias partes del mundo, como Corea del Sur, Singapur o Wuhan (China).
La epidemióloga de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) Maria Van Kerkhove alertó este jueves sobre el rebrote del nuevo coronavirus en varias partes del mundo, como Corea del Sur, Singapur o Wuhan, ciudad en la que se originó la COVID-19, y ha instado a los países a «estar preparados» para eventuales resurgimientos.
Sin embargo, aunque ha precisado que las causas de los rebrotes son distintas en cada caso, «lo realmente importante» es que estos países tienen «sistemas para identificar rápidamente el virus y comenzar el rastreo de contactos».
Asimismo, remarcó la necesidad de que «todo el mundo» tenga acceso a una eventual vacuna contra el coronavirus. «Tenemos que asegurar que hay acceso (a la vacuna) para todo el mundo en el planeta», ha dicho.
En este contexto, la epidemióloga, que ha reconocido la unión de la comunidad internacional, fabricantes y científicos para acelerar el desarrollo de una vacuna, ha especificado que la OMS no «puede saber» cuánto tiempo se demorará encontrarla.
«Necesitamos encontrar una manera de llegar a ese estado estable donde podamos suprimir la transmisión lo suficiente (…) para volver a vivir nuestra vida cotidiana», detalló.
