Niña de 10 años ‘se casó’ 12 días antes de morir por leucemia
‘Quería ser esposa y tener tres hijos’
Aunque tuvo un triste final tras no poder recuperarse de la leucemia que le aquejaba, Emma Edwards, una niña de 10 años de Estados Unidos, pudo «casarse» el pasado 29 de junio, 12 días antes de fallecer, y así cumplir su sueño.
Ella y su «novio», Daniel Marshall Christopher «DJ» Williams Jr., intentaron tener una ceremonia de boda en su escuela primaria, pero recibieron la negativa por parte del establecimiento.
A pesar del complejo diagnóstico, los padres de Emma siempre mantuvieron la fe de que ella pudiese reponerse de la condición, según consigna el New York Post.
Sin embargo, a principios de junio, el personal médico les entregó una desastrosa información: Emma no se iba a recuperar del cáncer.
“No esperábamos escuchar eso en absoluto”, agregó Alina. «Pensamos que íbamos a buscar otro tipo de tratamiento y que funcionaría. Fue como un puñetazo en el estómago. Nunca los imaginas diciendo que no pueden hacer nada más por ella”, precisó.
Fue entonces cuando las madres de Alina y DJ entraron en acción y comenzaron a hacer planes para una boda simulada.
El «matrimonio»
Así, se hicieron todos los preparativos para llevar a cabo la ceremonia. Cien invitados, la lectura de pasajes bíblicos y la mejor amiga siendo la dama de honor fueron parte del evento.
En medio de la sensible situación, Alina comentó que han sido numerosas las muestras de apoyo. De hecho, los pilotos de autos de carreras en el Bowman Gray Stadium, en las cercanías de Winston-Salem, Carolina del Norte, lucían calcomanías que decían “Emma’s Army (el ejército de Emma)” en sus vehículo en un evento en julio.
Las calcomanías también estaban a la venta como un esfuerzo de recaudación de fondos para ayudar a la familia Edwards, según informó el Winston-Salem Journal.
“La mayoría de los niños quieren ir a Disneyland, pero Emma quería casarse, ser esposa y tener tres hijos”, dijo Alina. “Era un amor. Siempre digo que debimos hacer que el matrimonio pareciera realmente divertido, porque eso era todo lo que ella quería”, finalizó.
