México incautó más de 15 000 tortugas que iban a ser enviadas ilegalmente a China
Las autoridades de México decomisaron 15 053 tortugas de diversas especies, 14 793 de ellas vivas, en el Aeropuerto Internacional de la Ciudad de México (AICM) en un cargamento con destino a China.

El decomiso fue realizado durante una visita de inspección que en materia de vida silvestre llevó a cabo la Profepa, con la colaboración de la Administración General de Aduanas, a un cargamento de 158 embalajes de madera, precisó la institución.
Las cajas fueron abiertas y revisadas en las instalaciones del Centro para la Conservación e Investigación de la Vida Silvestre (CIVS) de la Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (Semarnat) en Los Reyes La Paz, Estado de México.
La Profepa explicó que el objetivo de la revisión fue cuantificar el número de tortugas, su identificación taxonómica, verificar su procedencia legal, la existencia de permisos de exportación a China y verificar su categoría de riesgo de acuerdo a las normas mexicanas.
Los responsables del cargamento de tortugas no lograron acreditar la procedencia legal del total de los ejemplares hallados en las 158 cajas, señaló la Profepa.
