La tarde del jueves, un terremoto de magnitud 6,8 estremeció el jueves el este de Tayikistán, informó el Servicio Geológico de Estados Unidos (USGS).
El movimiento se sintió a las 05H37 hora local (00H37 GMT) y su epicentro tuvo una profundidad de unos 20,5 kilómetros, agregó el USGS.
Anticipó que «poca o ninguna población» se verá expuesta a deslizamientos por el sismo, cuyo epicentro pareció estar situado en Alto Badajshán, una provincia semiautónoma oriental fronteriza con Afganistán y China.

Una réplica de magnitud 5,0 se sintió en la región unos 20 minutos después del sismo inicial.
El territorio escasamente poblado bordea la cordillera de Pamir.
